House Omar

Philosophy of the Omar

House Omar is the least autocratic of all the noble houses. The leaders of the House consider it dishonourable to monitor and restrict their members, putting personal freedom first. House members are considered capable of looking after their own honour, and that of the House. But harsh punishments are reserved for those who bring dishonour upon House Omar. Whilst this does sometimes produce an attitude of 'anything goes, as long as you're not caught', it also gets results.

The children of the house are allowed much freedom in their actions as long as they do well in their studies and the exercises they are set. When a child reaches 14 years of age a party is thrown and as the party closes the child becomes a full member of the House and is considered an adult and capable of fending for themselves. Rarely do they need to since friends and family will continue to be there for support but they are then held accountable for all of their actions and their standing in the House becomes all the more important to them.

The House is still structured according to the designs of Regan Domas Omar, who was leader of the house some 50 years ago. To drive homethe importance of results the House is divided into four grades with new members of the House entering at grade four and trying to work their way into grade one or perhaps into the council of advisors or the leadership of the house itself.

History of the Omar

Although House Omar doesn't look back at its past, it still remembers and looks up to some of the key figures in its history. Xaara Omar founded the house and put in place a lot of what makes it what it is today. Nyssa Omar controlled the house when Farron Lystra stood up to the Emperor and was his strongest supporter. Within House Omar it is believed that Nyssa persuaded Farron to stand up to Emperor Truniss and some think that the two were having an affair. The House has two days of celebration for these two heroes of the House, in which the planets controlled by the House are given over to parties and celebrations.

More recently, the House is still trying to put aside the dishonourable actions of the previous leader, Weldon Yugan Omar. In 643EY, Lillith Livia Omar uncovered a plot by Weldon to overthrow the Emperor and to take his place. While the details were not made public, Weldon was sentenced to life imprisonment in solitary confinement on Sulidae. As the traitor was unmasked by a member of his own house, the Emperor was lenient and appointed another Omar as head of the House. Athos Fik Omar, a scrupulously honourable man, replaced the entirety of the ruling body of the House with his own appointees, all known for their honourable behaviour. Whilst this helped the House's position, not all believe that this change has filtered down to the house as a whole.

The House is also dogged by the rumour that they enjoy close ties with the Migan pirates. While it is probably true that some House members have such connections, Omar shipping suffers just as many attacks as that of the other Houses. In an effort to dispel the rumours the House's leadership have taken an extremely active role in pirate hunting throughout the Empire. Due to this constant activity, House Omar's navy is reckoned as the best trained currently in service in the Empire.

Geography of the Omar

Sunder - A Mix world, and Capital of House Omar. Sunder lies very centrally to the hyperspace routes of the empire. Its position gives it a strong advantage in trade and in theory would be a strategic location in times of conflict. In addition it holds a position of archaeological significance due to the Forerunner complex, Legacy Prime that was discovered there. The complex has landing facilities for spacecraft and a small amount of structures on the surface, currently used as commercial facilities. Underground though seems to be some kind of vast city complex that has not yet been fully explored although the areas nearest to the surface entrance have had power restored by the Tech Guild and are populated.

Due to the proximity to Legacy Prime, most of Omar's technologists are based here, along with many of its universities.

Besorine - One of the House's Agri worlds. It is particularly well known for the fine grapes which grow across much of the temperate zone, and so exports some of the best wines in the empire. The Emperor himself is known to insist on only wines from Besorine.

Corawu - An uninteresting Mining world. Its surface is mostly land, and bare land at that. Very little grows on this world.

Kraston IX - A highly profitable Factory world, with a population of 4 billion. Its location close to Machello space means that many traders are based here. There is also an Aaron's Roads installation here.

Mirango - A Death world, covered in ice and ice yetis. Hyperspace maps were once found here in an abandoned Forerunner installation, but nothing else was salvageable. Apart from that, it's just the ice and the yetis here.

Nestron - A harsh desert Mining world. Although there are few minerals buried in the planet, the sands of the desert are filled with mineral wealth. Special harvesters are used to collect and separate out the useful minerals.

Onloxia - A Death world, whose tangled forests are home to many fearsome Skyspiders.

Traal - A Mining world. A hive of scum and villainy, street gangs and crime lords abound in the mining towns of Traal.

Tundasha - A Factory world, reasonably close to Sunder. Most of House Omar's power cells are produced here. There is also an Aaron's Roads facility here, the closest one to Sunder.

Fileezo - An Agri world. Dragons abound here, and cause many problems for the locals. Because of this, the output of this world is quite low.

Bouros - A desert Death world, with some minor Legacy ruins containing nothing of interest. There are rumours of a Migan base on this planet, although nothing has ever been found.
