Legacy: OURPGSoc Society Game 2006-2007

What's in this section?

This section contains information about the Lystran Empire, which the PCs will be a part of. Important to note are the sections on Honour and Technology as we expect these to play a large role in the life of every Noble; their main contact with the Law of the Empire is through Duels. A recent addition to the Empire's makeup is the Aaron's Roads network, which can transport people between connected planets nearly instantaneously. Of course, this transport isn't enjoyed by the Commoners of the Empire (and not even by most of the Nobility thanks to the extortionate fees charged by ARC). The History of the Empire can also be found here, along with details of Religion, whish isn't a major factor in the political makeup of the Empire. For that you'll want The Houses and The Guilds.

Information on Psychics, the Military, Archaeological Sites and Leisure Activities round this section out.

Information on the Planet Types found in the Empire and the workings of Space travel are found in The Galaxy section.

Miscellaneous Information

Presented here are some small bits of information that don't fit into any of the other pages.

Naming Conventions

Members of the Noble Houses traditionally append their Houses' name to their surname to give a format

First Name-Surname-House Name

When members of one House renounce it to join another (for example because of marriage), they also append the name of their new House. In practice, they then usually omit their Surname to prevent their name from becoming too unwieldy, giving the format

First Name-Old House Name-New House Name

So, for example, if Kira Joaan Machello marries Haerub Sorret Omar, she would become Kira Machello Omar. Also notable is the fact that many in the upper echelons of House Truniss have no surname. This indicates that they are direct decendants of the original family which founded the house.

Those of non-Noble status, also known as low House or commoners, usually refer to themselves by first name and surname only, though the more House proud may add House name also.

Dating Conventions

A 'year' is the Empire-wide standard of time; it is speculated that this was the orbital period of the home-world of Sarrelon Truniss. Each planet, of course, has its own orbital period and seasons; there may be local calendars of use to farmers, or to mark traditional holidays or dates of religious significance.

There are 12 months in a 'year', with 4 weeks in each month. Additionally, there is one week at the start of the year to commemorate the founding of the Empire, and one week half way through the year to commemorate the coronation of the current Emperor; they are traditionally times of Empire-wide celebration. Founder's Week and Emperor's Week are not in any month at all, to give a total of 50 weeks in a year.

Dates are given in Empire Years (EY), measured from the start of the Truniss Empire. The year at game start is 660EY.

Court Meeting

The Imperial Court meets on the Imperial City Ship once every 6 months, during Emperor's Week and Founder's Week. The sessions will take place at an event during Court Meetings, but PCs will be assumed to stick around for the week [so email discussion between players before turnsheeting is viable].

Emperor's Council

The Emperor's Council is a select group of people who advise the Emperor personally. It meets during each Court Meeting and has one representative from each Noble House, typically the Head of the House. Special advisors from the Technologists, Chirurgeons and Historicals are normally invited to take part.
