House Lystra
Xanolph Lystra
Xanolph is the current Emperor, having succeeded his father at the young age of 9. Until his 16th birthday, Lanton Beltar Lystra was appointed as his Regent by the other Houses. Xanolph learned quickly, but he has always taken advice on all matters from Lanton. He has proven himself a strong leader in the eyes of many.
Some believe that Lanton never really gave up his influence when Xanolph came of age and that he still rules the Empire, with the Emperor little more than a puppet, but the only person to speak openly of this quickly learned that no other would support her. Xanolph is currently seen very little at social events, preferring to let his sons attend in his stead.

Aaron Lystra
The Emperor's younger son, Aaron has a close relationship with his brother Strauss. He can often be found attending social events as the Emperor's formal representative as Xanolph himself attends very few. Aaron is also fond of the hospitality provided at such events and has lost interest in politics since his youngest sister Roweena was nominated for succession. Aaron follows the sport of Mirror Duelling closely.

Berrit Prost Lystra
Berrit is the Chief Gaoler aboard the Imperial Gaol Frigate, The Damocles. He considers the position to be a great honour, having been promoted from House Omar, where he developed a reputation as a superb manager of difficult personalities combined with the mean streak required of a Gaoler.
As The Damocles maintains a position in space, Berrit is required to take frequent shore leave and thus has a mansion on Ekor, home of the Imperial School of Psychic Study. This mansion was recently targetted by a Contestant of Acquisiton known as the Wolf, who succeeded at obtaining "the contents of the No.2 strongbox", which is presumably known only to Prost and the Wolf. This lapse in security has been a matter of some embarrassment to Berrit, causing to lose some of his Honour.

Callos Lystra - Tamsin (3)
The Imperial Swordsmith. Widely regarded as the finest weaponsmith to be produced by the Lystran Empire in the past century. Her work always combines exquisite artistry with blunt functionality, producing weapons that are a joy both to behold and wield.

Etelani Karpeer Lystra - Mark (1,2)
Lord High Constable of the UIC. Proud and honourable, Etelani is not afraid to dispense with Court etiquette when exercising his duty to protect the Empire.
Etelani has been known to increase the priority of UIC investigations that he feels merit special attention, and is open to suggestion about which cases these should be. Only a small number of senior UIC officers report directly to Etelani, so he is often unaware of the details of individual cases.
Not known to be the best at investigations himself, Etelani has a talent for the complex administation which is required to coordinate an Empire wide force.

Kazan Holt Lystra is brother of Wesmar Holt Lystra, the leader of House Lystra's fleets. He has made a name for himself though as a film director, producing feature films and sometimes news films for the cinemas.

Lanton Beltar Lystra - John (Session 1,2)
Lanton Beltar Lystra has been involved with running the Empire at the highest levels for most of his life.
He was a close friend of and chief advisor to the previous Emperor, Gaven Lystra. Following the tragic early death of Gaven, and with his successor Xanolph Lystra aged only 9, Lanton took charge of the Empire as Regent for 7 years.
Despite some expecting him to cling to power, the transition to rule by Xanolph occurred smoothly. Lanton remains a close advisor to the Emperor, and despite now being past his prime remains one of the most powerful people in the Empire.

Leandar is the Chief Consul on Diplomatic Affairs, and hence an important member of the Imperial Administration. He has achieved his position through years of quiet competence and an unfailing ability to make friends with the right people.
Mynar Lystra - John (4)
Mynar Lystra is the public face of the Order of Divine Enlightenment at Court functions. Although not in the top ranks of the Order, his House Lystra ties make him an influential speaker. He is rather direct in putting forward the views of the Order.

The Emperor's elder daughter.
Phyrex Lystra
Phyrex was slated to become one of the Imperial Elite Guard's top Admirals until a joke at a family party displeased his cousin the Emperor. Shortly after this, Phyrex found that his superiors felt that his future lay in prison management rather than in the navy.
Phyrex was sent to be the Chief Gaoler on the Imperial Prison Planet, Sulidae. He is aware of the importance of the role and as such is no longer bitter about his appointment. He has been responsible for the planet for a record 28 years, and has refused offers of alternative commisions, preferring the harsh conditions of the deathworld and the responsibility of his current post. It is rumoured that he gave his Word to guard Sulidae until the outbreak of war with another Empire.

Rene Machello Lystra - Bri (5)
Having served as Emperor's Man for a decade now, most people imagine that Rene is looking forward to retiring from the vigorous life of Advocacy. Indeed several people have gone so far as to suggest to her face that it is time to step down. Rene is a good natured woman however, and responds to such comments with an easy smile and dismissive shrug.

The Emperor's youngest daughter. The current designated heir to the Empire due to her interest in politics.
Sharna Lystra
Sharna is the Emperor's dutiful wife and can be found ever by his side. As such, she is rarely seen in public. It is said that when she first met Xanolph, he was so stunned by her beauty that he resolved to marry her immediately.

Strauss Lystra
The Emperor's older son, Strauss has a close relationship with his brother Aaron. He can often be found attending social events as the Emperor's formal representative as Xanolph himself attends very few. Strauss is also fond of the hospitality provided at such events and has lost interest in politics since his youngest sister Roweena was nominated for succession. Strauss is also a keen, if not very skilled, holographic chess player; it is rumoured that his opponents often lose deliberately so as not to embarrass him.

Wesmar Holt Lystra - Chris (4,5)
Wesmar is the Lord Admiral of the Imperial Navy and hence the single most important military figure in the Lystran Empire. He is renowned for his ability to combine the disparate fleets of the Houses into a single unified force in defense of the Empire, making him as much a diplomat as a strategist.
Wulfric Apidae Lystra
The current Head Master of the Imperial School of Psychic Study, Wulfric is (naturally) a powerful psychic. In earlier life he used his Bio and Imprint powers as an investigator in the UIC, before becoming one of the few Psi School teachers lacking the Meta stream. Born on one of the few Lystra owned worlds, he is hugely loyal to the Emperor. He has a reputation for benevolence, probably related to his rather laissez-faire attitude towards school discipline.

Elim Kavi Karpeer - Joe C
Elim Kavi Karpeer was born plain Elim Kavi; he earned the Karpeer name and noble rank the hard way, by distinguishing himself at the University. Although his health has clearly been wrecked by hard study, he has applied himself dutifully to his role as investigator and information manager for the house, in the course of which he has acquired a slightly unsavoury reputation for prying into matters that really shouldn't concern him.

A young woman in her mid twenties who, for the past few years, has filled the position of Advocate for House Karpeer. She has a reputation for being zealous in the role and not too bad at it either, which has in turn brought her and her house honour. This does mean however, that she's beaten quite a few people in the past - they're not always too pleased about this.

Uther is a veteran of war with House Omar and captain of two frigates, the Solar Dawn and the Wolf. Uther is also known to be a mouthpiece for the political group known as 'Purity' - an organization with the stated goal of ensuring the continued existance of humanity.

Zen Diego Karpeer - Tony
Zen dresses in a flamboyant, yet businesslike manner, and is never without his businesscard or smile. Zen has recently migrated from senior businessman to junior noble of house Karpeer. Reputedly, he dropped out of Prime College to make his own way in the world. Starting as little more than a backwater livestock trader, his exceptional motivational, administrative and tactical skills have taken him almost as far as he can go in the world.
Rumours about his psionic training are greatly exaggerated.

A Provost Historical, Arkal was promoted following the death of his dear friend Heronimous Kantor Karpeer, the famed Explorer. He was also the main beneficiary from Heronimous's will, but there is no suspicion of foul play as Kantor died naturally of old age.

The stain on his Honour remains from illicit activities earlier in his career, though he has spend many years trying to make amends.

A powerful trader, Karma graduated from Prime University with flying colours. He was responsible for the University's large Procurement Department and was elected to the Chancellorship of the Prime University following Azura Mirral's retirement.

Erle is the epitome of the conversative politician. He rarely engages in any action without first consulting a bevy of advocates to ensure that it can be upheld as honourable. As a result he is a competent but uninspiring leader, who is primarily interested in House Machello's economic wellbeing. There are rumours that Erle may have been involved in his brother Januk's accident, but his frantic appeals to the chirurgeons to cure his sibling would seem to refute this.

He is also a member of the Technologists Guild, though his interest in the Legacy doesn't seem to extend beyond the interior of his bike.

Known flirt and more recently Gravcycle racer, Irini is Anada Truniss’ younger daughter and a thorn in his honourable side. Her transgressions have not thus far been major, but her tendencies to make rash decisions and her lack of subtlety in making her desires known have lead to problems and are much gossiped over.

One of the identical twin heirs to House Truniss, Jaren is the more domineering of the pair and it is thus generally accepted that he will one day be the House's true ruler. At the moment however, he seems more interested in enjoying his youth than in preparing himself for the burdens of rule.

Larden Zemkiss Truniss is the current head of the Historicals, though he is now close to retirement.
Before taking his position, he acted as a Scribe, but in his position as leader has been pushing the historical anaylsis part of the organisation heavily.
In his prime he was one of the finest academic minds of his generation, but has faded rapidly, and some now claim him to be senile.
He remains a senior member of House Truniss, which is only possible as the Historicals are not regarded as being as powerful as the Chirurgeons or Technologists.

Nominally a dull midranking Truniss governor. However, he is often seen in the conference with the senior leadership of House Truniss, and is extremely well connected. It is rumoured that he is effectively the House Truniss spymaster, though this is of course strenuously denied.

Ailena Ashmedai Vinka, daughter of Lillith Omar Vinka and Dorian Ashmedia Vinka (deceased), is a quiet and bookish Historical with strong Family loyalty. No major discoveries have yet been attributed to her name, though she seems hopeful about certain newly-reopened areas of Legacy Prime. The UIC are currently investigating her death in a highly-suspicious cave-in during 616 EY. There are rumours that she doesn't get on particularly well with her mother.

Close friend of Daryoon Machello, Baryn spends much of his time on Ektabana. The two met at Psi School; Baryn completing his studies to become a competent but not exceptional Bio Psychic. Baryn has kept the name Ditix according to his father's wishes, though he harbours no stong desire to return Gyran Ditix to power.
It is rumoured that his family are upset at the amount of time he spends away from House Vinka's territories, though they take no action against him.

Hilam Georg Vinka - Mark (1,2)
Hilam Georg Vinka is an exceptional bureaucrat and one of Ingvild Vinka's closest allies. Her friend before her rise to power, Hilam has become the Chief of Staff for House Vinka. This places him second in command of the House.
He is widely expected to become House Leader upon Ingvild's retirement. Not the most politically savvy, his administrative efficiency and his ability to get the ordinary citizens to believe in the dream of expansion and the greater prosperity it will bring make him an effective leader.

Ingvild Vinka has lead House Vinka since the expulsion of Gyran Ditix following the Forlox Incident, though she is in her late 60s and is expected to step down soon.
Her policies have seen the House's profitable planets taxed greatly to fund expansion and led to the discovery of new Hyperspace maps by Jonas Georg Vinka, nephew of her close friend and Chief of Staff Hilam Georg Vinka. She is slowly attempting to overturn the Ditix policy of requiring all House members to enjoy popular support, though her appointed governors are still expected to work closely with the bodies elected by their subjects.
Ingvild is a wily politician and wields considerable influence with the Imperial House Lystra, something her allies have made good use of when their cause aligns with hers.

Jonas Georg Vinka - Joe (1)
Jonas recently won much acclaim for recovering a starmap crystal from the Ice World of Mirango. Aside from this towering achievement he has had an unremarkable career as an explorer for the Society of Historicals. Interestingly his hat is of a style made nowhere in the Lystran Empire.

Leon Ditix Vinka - Mark (3, 4, 5)
Leon Ditix Vinka is an information specialist. While cunning, Leon has been has been suspected of using blackmail to acquire his information. However his networks have proved to be entirely honourable, consisting of loose alliances of traders who operate amongst all the Houses. Leon is responsible for the planet Korian (an unremarkable mining world).
Leon was one of Gyran Ditix's closer allies and despite public assertions to the contrary, some still believe that he would see Gyran's return to the Nobility. Leon has a passing interest in unusual ship sightings, but this is of course completely unrelated to Gyran.

Mikael Vinka
Mikael Vinka is Ingvild's son. Despite being 28, Ingvild considers him to immature to lead the house. Mikael is also a respected Duellist, but he has not studied enough Law to become an Advocate of the House. He follows the Gravcycle races closely, and often wagers large sums of money on the outcome of a race. Always a good sport, Mikael has not yet been dishonoured by a failure to meet his part of a wager.
Mikael also enjoys a close relationship with members of House Lystra, and there are rumours of a possible marriage to one of the Emperor's nieces.

A Commander with House Vinka's elite Marines. His troops are thought to be some of the best in the House and his best men are known as "Jakob's Troubleshooters".

Oskar made his name as a pilot for House Vinka long ago. However, after his wife was killed during a reconnaissance mission he has turned to the drink and to his hunt for the great white Space Monster that killed his beloved. Now often found flying with Peter Ordos Vinka.

Twenty years ago Reggen was in his prime and was one of the Empire's finest advocates. That was twenty years ago; Advocacy is not a profession for the aged, and after a particularly crushing defeat at the hands of Anada Truniss several years back, Reggen was ushered in a training position in one of House Vinka's better Law schools.

A famed yet enigmatic Contestant of Acquisition, Golden Glove has stolen the some of the Empire's rarest, most beautiful artefacts; most artists consider it a mark of honour to have thier work targetted by him. Many a Contestant was inspired by the Glove and his fifty year career; many ladies swoon at his name.

While he only initiates Contests intermittently, the Wolf's record of victory is unblemished: most impressive, given that one of his Contests was against the Chief Gaoler, Berrit Prost Lystra. His targets are often unknown (possibly even to him) - the contents of safes, or hidden boxes, or a pen from the third drawer down of a Noble's desk. Possibly he likes the challenge.

Officially 'Arch-Dynast and Grand Shield of the Protectorate', Jalil has served as the Hollann ambassador to the Lystran Empire for the past 20 years. Confrontational, cold and frequently extremely obnoxious, he appears to be an excellent representative of his civilisation.
There are rumours that he was posted to the Lystran Empire for political reasons, but in the past two decades he has never been known to speak of the matter.

Not much is known of this 'Dread Pirate', save his cruelty and ruthlessness; many a trader shudders at mention of his name. Rumours are rife with tales of his villainy: some believe him to be the King of Space Pirates, or an agent of the Hollann; others say there is no single Versto, but the name is used by many disparate pirate bands to strike terror into their victims. But, as Versto continues to elude capture, there can be no proof of anything.
