Quick rundown of gods:

The Old Gods

(From Peter-of-the-Beard's grimoire - this copy was printed in 1604, after his pre-Iron Rule notebook finally fell to bits. There are several scribbles in the margin from various types of pen, from quill to biro).

Artemisia, called the Queen of the Wood, is of the Deep and her wrath is to be feared - tread not on the paths of the Deep Forests unless you would leave the world of men behind. (Sarah Bouchier)

Laetatio, called Lord of Light, has created many things of beauty and wonder. One of the kindest of gods, butterflies are sacred to him. In times past gained a terrible wound which has never healed - truly is no beauty perfect, even in the Upper Air.

Post-it note stuck over entry: Now become Messenger of the Gods. (James Wyatt)

The Duke of Shadows dwells in darkness and is a jealous God - those who turn to the darkness remain loyal to the darkness alone. To him are cats sacred. In this grimoire are the arts and skills to call the Chisisi Bastet, who are loyal to him. A stalwart guardian of the Barred Doors. (Jacob Malone)

Qandisa is the Queen of the Dead. Those who slay ravens with malice visit her land sooner than they anticipated. Many are those who worship her, and yet who truly knows what she guards? (Jennifer Spencer)

The Hunter leads the great hunts, and to him must you answer should you slay a sacred beast of the gods without making the appropriate supplications to the animal's patron. The horse is his favoured creature, and he bears a longbow of legend. Those who hunt animals practice arts learned from him. He is of White Silk Fire. (Toby Wright)

Niobhan who is Madness favours those of Grace more than man, save those who have received his gift. This grimoire can teach the student to call the faeries of Niobhan from the Upper Air without succumbing to their words. (Neil Young)

Know ye that the god of Time is named Epimelsthai Hopose Ti Genesetai and that you shall receive no respite from his passing. His manner is grave, his spirit is his Duty, and none may ask a reprieve from Time of Barred Doors. To mankind he taught letters, that the past may be remembered, and musicians call him teacher.

[Scribbled note in biro: No longer patron of musicians, probably hasn't been for centuries. Why didn't I pick up on this?] (Chris Venus)

Destia is the Goddess of the Mirrors. Fallen is she from the Throne of Night, for her sins, and she has lost her eyes and yet sees. The Moon is her symbol and the Startouched her followers. She is of Barred Doors. (Christi Scarborough)

The Night is ruled by Arenmei of the Upper Air, who ended the misrule of Destia. (Ben Mann)

Kami of White Silk Fire is the guardian of Nihon. (Note in Biro: called Japan these days). With skill one can summon his Dragons of Earth and Heaven to do thy bidding. He is a mighty warrior. (Keith Fraser)

Checkaveee of White Silk Fire is the Lord of the Dance. He is not numbered among the very great, and for a Master of Protocol his deportment is sometimes questionable and his temper uncertain. He favours bright colours, and macaws, and his schemes are more complex than they are successful. [Marginal note: is this supposed to be the same Checkaveee who 'fought like nine demons' against the Unreal? check sources] (Lex Kennedy)

Trutina who is the Lady of Apples is the greatest friend of mankind. She gave us the ales and the wines, and favours brewers, distillers and imbibers. [Marginal note: since the Iron Rule fell I've discovered that I can run my motor-car on vodka as easily as on petrol. I'm sure this has never been the case - has Trutina taken the Estate of Fire?] (Nickey Barnard)

Roax thirsts for ale and women, and is a comrade of the Hunter. The greatest of hounds owe him fealty, and his voice is as thunder and fire. [Marginal note, in quill pen: Rude bastard as well, I seem to recall.] [Marginal note, in biro: Now God of War, Fire preserve us...] (NPC)

The New Gods

(A fragment from a report from the Last Cell, a group of CIA agents reporting directly to the Burnt Metal Men and responsible for issuing orders to the President of the US, and helping the Burnt Metal Men keep track of New Gods. This copy was leaked to a journalist, who sold it to Peter-of-the-Beard in return for a can of petrol. Peter is now using it as his personal "New Gods grimoire" - his notes are in square brackets.)

Isis: Emerged from a star shortly after the GotIL intervened to conclude the Godwar. Daughter of the Starsinger. The Compass has described a cordon about the Starsinger's prison to prevent Isis from obtaining access. Associated with CotUA. Has established covenant with rams - suggest moving sheep flocks away from all bases where material of security level IRON and up are kept.

[Scribbled note: previous Starsinger def. dead. Isis must now hold the Estate.] (Gemma Wright)

Woodstock: Deeply involved in subversive, un-American activity, especially the promotion of rock music and narcotics. Intends to claim the Estate of Love should a Total Iron Failure occur. Previous aspirant disappeared at Woodstock festival - is there a connection? The Hammer is investigating. Has recruited beetles to his cause, and has cultivated contacts in the music world. [Marginal note from Peter-of-the-Beard: probably now has the Estate.] (Ben Allen)

Thalateia: Broken individual. Malfunctional but still dangerous. Allied with magpies, attended by rats. Has built an UnderLondon of refuse - this must be considered an exclusion area. Breaker-of-Sanctuaries has ordered all London operatives to burn unwanted documents. Believed to be sympathetic to Underworld powers. [Marginal note: Definitely a candidate for the Shepherd.] (Laura Campbell)

Asafal: Violent, traffics with demons. Underworld sympathiser. [Marginal note: Sentinel.] (Steven Jones)

Fire-of-Noon: CotUA, has taken an especial interest in the Sun recently - F-16s with type-K enhancement had to be scrambled to prevent him from reaching it. The Hammer has sent BMMs to speak to him about this. [Marginal note: Now planning to become God of the Sun. And put the Sun on a unicycle? What the fuck?] [Another marginal note: It actually happened, Gods know how...] (NPC).

Earpenny: WSF. Insightful when it comes to other people's problems, less so when dealing with his own. The Compass is attempting to prevent him from making contact with any individuals he may give dangerous advice to. [Marginal note: trying to be God of Wisdom?] (NPC)

Marlaine of Barred Doors: Hammer has had to warn her (him? it?) twice about overinquisitiveness. Circulate description to all sensitive sites. [Marginal note: You can never be certain, but I'm pretty sure Marlaine is now God of Secrets] (NPC)

Bokruk: Deep Places. His swamp is a class-4 danger zone - do not enter without a Hammer-class BMM. [Marginal note: I've seen large, toadlike footprints on the path leading out onto the wastelands - Bokruk might be walking the path of the Wanderer.] (NPC)

Squall and Monsoon: DP. Too intent on hating each other to be dangerous. [Marginal note: Bollocks to that, their fighting over Storm's flooded my turnip patch.] (NPC)

Abyss: DP, oceanic, does not socialise with others of his Court - though this is unsurprising. (NPC)

Lesser Entities

Extracted from the notebook of Brkaaawk, macaw-headed Seneschal and servant of the Lord of the Dance, who makes a habit of listing all the other creatures who come to the meetings of the gods so he remembers their names next time.

Aeber(a) XXXIII, Queen-King of Grace. Makes good wine. Likes flowers (to eat).

Breaker-of-Sancturies, Burnt Metal Man. Fucker. She's called Fracorise now and is even prettier than me.

Typhonus/Typhona, head of the Order of the Yellow Field. Empress of India. Remember not to offer her-him manflesh, and give him-her a double room with Aeber if they are staying the night.

Child of Happiness. Born of happiness of Aeber and Typhonus - aw, how sweet. Boss said not to give him any salt - wonder what he means.

Emissary from the Second City. Part man, part demon, with a dash of divine blood. Family get-togethers must be fun.

Agent of the K Group. Dunno who the K Group are, but they made the toy in the suitcase the boss doesn't want us to talk to any living soul about. One of the mortals in town reckons it's a nooklar bomb, whatever that is.

Peter-of-the-Bottle. Boozehound and magus. Satanus Brainsmash. Loudest musicians I ever heard. God of Love brought them along. Sang a good song about Destia and Turos.

Unicycle the macaw. Boss gave him away. (Reminder: next time I see him I should ask for my copy of Paradise Lost back.)
