Closed Races
These races are not available to new players, but are widely known in
CivCore.
This furry, ursine race, about three feet tall, live on the planet of the
same name. They are known for their indolence and suggestibility,
occasionally making half-hearted andvances toward other races in order to
arrange parties, holiday resorts or baseball games, then deciding they
don't have the energy.
The Dra'zan are a legendary race, present in the myths of those races with
long space-going histories. They are said to be few in number, and to be
itinerant wanderers. They are also said to be able to change their
physical appearance at will, and to imitate the form of races with which
they wish to interact. Occasionally, an eccentric traveller will be
suspected of being a Dra'zan, but such stories are certainly far more
common than the Dra'zan themselves, if indeed they ever existed.
The Handrahen are a race of artificial computer intelligences. Each
consists of a kilometer long space-going craft, with each of its
components acting in perfect harmony under the direction of the central
identity of the ship. A nomadic race, they arrived in CivCore around 300
years ago from a region of burned-out stars called the "Gulf of Ash",
having become caught up in a terrible war which decimated their people.
The plantains are bananoids. They are yellow, curved, six feet tall, with
long stringy arms and great big fangy mouths. Their emissaries, when other
races can't avoid having contact with them, call themselves Amazing
Exploding Bananas, but do not look like bananas. They do explode, however.
This race appears to be interested in spinning, laughing, singing and
occasional bouts of mass destruction. You have been warned.
The Shari jump gate is a major intersection of trade routes, but few
bother to visit the planet Shari. It is generally considered too cold for
proper habitation, yet is settled. The primitve Sharians live in small
states, which are run by the so-called Pariahs, who enjoy God-king status.
Not much is known about their culture or technology, yet they seem to
posses some climate controlling technology.
Tall, highly muscled and leonine, the Tharil race are much prized for
their inexplicable ability to increase the accuracy and range of any space
travel - usually as slaves hooked up to whatever spacecraft is being used.
They are defined as animals by the HCPD and are not admitted as members to
Starmerc, the GMG or the CCF. These last three organizations are loath to
explain their decision, but it is suspected that the HCPD has its
adherents in their higher echelons. The Tharils do not seem to have a home
planet or major colony, however, since they are seen as expensive
commodities by most races, it would be wise for them to conceal any such
base.
The Xanovrians were a warrior race, with fanged teeth, feral eyes, and the
females having wings. Male warriors were 5-6 feet tall, females 7 feet.
Both stank of musk and pheremone. In combat, they fought in packs of about
6. They used to survive by taking food and resources from other races;
however, their victims fought back and hunted them close to extinction. It
is unknown whether any now survive.
