The Rough Guide to the world of Imagister.

History.

This region is once again safe for tourists and casual visitors.. Twenty years ago just visiting the region could have got you involved in all kinds of nasty stuff. The first thing that happened was the cataclysm, a event that seemed to send earthquakes and tidal waves racing around the world. This seems to have coincided with the death of a powerful wizard called the Magister who ruled the city of Taeorn - the greatest city in the world. After that came a period of terrible starvation as people across the land tried to find sources of food and fuel in a devastated country.

Leading the efforts to restore Taeorn and the surrounding area were the 'Gifted'. Ordinary people granted magical powers over the five forces

  • Body - the power over the physical.
  • Change - creation and manipulation of existing objects.
  • Destiny - fate, future, prophecy and luck.
  • Land - understanding and promoting communities, places or nature.
  • Mind - all things logical or imagination.
  • Using these powers they could alter the world around them, and did. Internal conflicts and a war against a militaristic Kanveh sapped some of Taeorn's power and in the confusion the rot set in.

A Dark Power, referred to by many of the Gifted as the 'Taint' or the 'Void', wormed its way into the heart of Taeorn and despite the best acts of the noble gifted they were betrayed and the city was consumed by the power of the taint. But not before the noble Gifted had managed to help many of the populace to safety.

    The World Now.

Things have changed. Twenty years later the world has had a chance to rebuild. The Taint explosion reduced the powers of the Gifted in the intervening years. Whilst their arts have been useful they have not been capable of repeating the mighty feats they achieved before the explosion, or the second cataclysm as it now known. Nonetheless they still have had powers beyond those or ordinary people, and those who followed the path of the 'Void' have managed to keep control of their full powers.

Now the balance has changed. One month ago there was a solar eclipse and since then there has been an upsurge in power. The Gifted once again have the ability to shape the world through their arts and they are being called to do so.

    Stuff.

Imagister is a medieval fantasy free form game acted out between the players once a week. In between weekly sessions your character's actions are described to the Games Masters through a turn sheet.
The game is run by a team of five GMs, each one responsible for a different group of players, and together they are responsible for the story.

Costumes are welcomed at the session but are not necessary.

If you want to get involved in the game come along to the character creation session on Tuesday 13th of October, (a.k.a. Tuesday 1st week) in the Arco Building in Keble college. Keble college is the bulding that looks like a beserk wedding cake. If you want to play but can't make it e-mail: Rpgsocgm@mailist.ox.ac.uk
